Neopentyl glycol is highly soluble in water, making it suitable for a variety of industrial applications involving aqueous solutions. It also dissolves readily in lower alcohols, lower ketones, ethers, and aromatic compounds, demonstrating its excellent solvent compatibility.It has a melting point of 126–128 °C and a boiling point of 208 °C.

Neopentyl glycol has a broad range of industrial applications. It is mainly used in the manufacture of unsaturated polyester resins, oil-free alkyd resins, polyurethane foams, and elastomers. It is also employed as a plasticizer, an additive in high-grade lubricants, and a raw material for synthesizing other fine chemicals.

As an excellent solvent, neopentyl glycol can be used to selectively separate aromatic hydrocarbons from naphthenic hydrocarbons. It provides outstanding resistance to water, chemicals, and weathering. Amino baking enamels formulated with neopentyl glycol demonstrate excellent gloss retention and yellowing resistance. In addition, it serves as a raw material in the production of polymerization inhibitors, stabilizers, and pesticides.
