Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is the second most widely used general-purpose resin in the world. PVC resin grade SG5 is a white, free-flowing powder that can be blended with various additives to obtain a wide range of properties suited to different applications. PVC is highly versatile and is characterized by excellent colorability, corrosion resistance, water resistance, and good chemical and thermal stability. It has a relative density of 1.35–1.40, a chlorine content of 56%–58%, and a melting point of approximately 70–85°C. PVC is soluble in or can be swollen by ketones, esters, tetrahydrofuran, and chlorinated hydrocarbons.

According to the amount of plasticizer incorporated, PVC is generally divided into two types: rigid PVC and flexible PVC. Flexible PVC is used to manufacture transparent films for applications such as raincoats, tablecloths, packaging materials, and agricultural films, as well as artificial leather, foamed plastics, and wire insulation. Rigid PVC, on the other hand, is commonly used to produce sheets, pipes, valves, and window and door frames. PVC resin produced by suspension polymerization is typically in powder form, while resin obtained through emulsion polymerization has a paste-like consistency. Both types can be processed into either flexible or rigid plastic products.

This material is widely used in numerous industries, including food, healthcare, stationery, building materials, decoration, chemicals, textiles, consumer goods, light industry, agriculture, packaging, power, public utilities, and everyday applications. It is used to manufacture a broad range of products, such as PVC films, hoses, footwear components, rigid PVC pipes, rigid and semi-rigid sheets, and profiles. It is also suitable for telecommunication, signaling, and low-voltage cables, as well as insulated wires that require high electrical performance. Other applications include rigid boards, phonograph records, valves, pipes, and welding rods.

In addition, this material is used in the production of artificial leather, wallpaper, plastic flooring, impregnated window screening, dipped gloves, prosthetic limbs, flame-retardant conveyor belts, and non-woven carpets. It also serves as an important raw material for paints, fibers, adhesives, insulating materials, transparent sheets, and various molded or extruded PVC products. Further applications include plastic sheathing and outer coatings for rubber- or plastic-insulated cables, battery separators, insulating coatings, PVC-lined bottle caps, and toys. It is also used to prepare base layers for non-foamed artificial leather, surface layers for artificial leather and flooring, impregnated canvas, hollow-molded products, erasers, and bottle caps.
